Twitter to expand tweets from 140 characters to 10,000
Twitter's most beloved features is set to change. The company is planning to
extend its 140-character limit to as many as 10,000, according to a person
familiar with the matter. Twitter’s fans were quick to complain that such a
change, expected to be announced by the end of March, would spoil the
brevity and speed of the real-time service.
The character limit that forces users to pen snappy tweets could give way to
the longer essays found on Facebook. It could transform Twitter into more of a public blogging platform rather than one that is succinct and well-suited to
quips and breaking news headlines.
This person said, however, that Twitter Inc. is aiming to retain the look and
feel of the user timeline. For tweets that are longer than 140 characters, users will have to click and expand to see the rest of the text. As users write
beyond the 140-character limit, Twitter will signal to them that they have
crossed the threshold as a way to encourage brevity.
In a tweet on Tuesday after the news spilled out, co-founder and CEO
Jack Dorsey tweeted a screenshot of text, 1,317 characters with spaces,
explaining his thinking behind the expansion. “We’ve spent a lot of time
observing what people are doing on Twitter, and we see them taking
screenshots of text and tweeting it,” Mr. Dorsey wrote. “Instead, what if
that text…was actually text? Text that could be searched. Text that
could be highlighted. That’s more utility and power.” Despite the change,
Mr. Dorsey said Twitter will “never lose that feeling” of speed, creativity
and brevity.
"Despite the lamentations that the change will alter the spirit of Twitter,
the truth is that users have been clawing for a longer character limit for
some time. Loyal users often create so-called tweetstorms where they
string a series of tweets together by replying to them in numerical
succession. Users have also gone around the character restriction by
attaching screenshots of longer text to their tweets.
In July 2015, Twitter expanded the 140-character limit on private messages to 10,000.Twitter has been doing a bit of soul-searching to jump-start user growth ever
since the return of Mr. Dorsey as CEO in July. The debate to increase the
character limit has been in the works since as early as September.

Lagos To Install 10,000 CCTV Cameras Across The State
The Lagos State Government yesterday said it had concluded plans to
install 10,000 Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras statewide as part
of measures to ensure that the state is secure against the activities of
terrorists in the light of the insurgency rocking the country
Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Akinyemi Ashade,
said this while giving a breakdown of the 2016 budget, tagged ’The
Peoples’ Budget’, saying the government will also activate the existing
1,000 CCTV cameras already installed in the state.
According to him, “We will be expanding our ICT infrastructure statewide.
Consequently, a budget of N9.6 billion has been approved for this purpose
in 2016. This will include a Smart City project targeted at deploying
technology to enhance security in the state. It will also aid our revenue
generating efforts.
“We will be increasing coverage of CCTV installations in the state. Our
goal is to have over 10,000 active cameras, connected by Broadband. The
existing 1,000 cameras will be reactivated and these will be increased by
an additional 3,000 cameras after the completion of the first phase of this
project.”
Speaking on the need to beef up security and maintain law and order, the
Commissioner said ”We are all aware of the security challenges in the
country, and to manage this in the state we have committed about N23.5
billion for the maintenance of law and order, and to support security
services in the area of vehicles, security gadgets and logistics.
“We shall continue to enhance the welfare of our security agents by
providing allowances, fuelling of patrol vehicles and giving adequate life
insurance covers to motivate them in 2016. We will provide more buildings
for Police Area Commands in our state to enhance their performance. This
budget also includes projects that will enhance security of lives and
property in other areas of governance as previously enumerated.
“You will recall that this administration handed over equipment worth
N4.765 billion to the Lagos State Police Command in the last quarter of
2015. In addition to the activities mentioned earlier, we have also made
provisions for the completion of on-going court projects in Igando, Imota,
Ajegunle, as well as Judges’ Quarters at Falomo, to complement those
that had been completed.”
The Commissioner added that attention will be given to improving disaster
management, purchase of firefighting, occupational and public safety
equipment, and the construction of new fire stations and relief camps
across the state.
Ashade said geographic information systems and business solutions will be
given special attention in the course of the year.
According to him, activities to be covered under the platform include the
expansion of the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA)
residents’ registration exercise, the issuance of permanent resident’s
cards, and the consolidation of public financial management system
reforms.
He said the sum of N6.5 billion has been provided for in the budget for
2016.
Nigerian University Dropout Becomes A Stockbroker After Using His Student Loan To Start Trading & How Earns £30,000 On A Bad Month
Elijah Oyefeso, 21, trades on the stock market for just one hour a day to earn
his income. Elijah, from Camberwell, south London, who likes to show his
wealth on Instagram (inset) now lives in a £5,000 flat, buys expensive cars like the £150,000 Lamborghini he had sprayed gold (left), and likes to buy watches including a £21,000 Cartier watch that he’s worn twice. Read full story after the cut…
From UK Daily Mail
He said: ‘If you work hard you don’t need to look at the price tag, you just get
it.’ Elijah claims he bought his first Mercedes aged 18 but soon faced jealousy from his peers in the south London neighbourhood after his success.
He said: ‘They’ve come from the same area and they’re still in the same area
and went to school in the same area.
‘My mum came from west Africa and came with probably £100 in her pocket.’Elijah went to the University of Buckingham to study business management but put his student loan to good use.
He said: ‘I used my student loan during university and I thought “I could
actually do this”.
Elijah dropped out of university and started investing in the stock market with the cash sum. Within nine months, he claimed he was making tens of
thousands of pounds.
He claims his income on a ‘bad month’ will be between £20,000 and £30,000
but added: ‘On a good month, I don’t think I can tell you that.’
Elijah, who featured in Channel 4’s Rich Kids Go Shopping on Channel 4, was
filmed as he traded online, making £1,000 in just 15 minutes.
‘I’ve been trading for three years, I know when to stop,’ he said.
The most he’s lost in one go is nearly £10,000. ‘When you lose it, you get back up. If you lose 12 times, you get back up 12 times.
‘You want to leave a name when you’re gone. Think about JP Morgan, the
assets are worth 2.6 trillion. So that’s a lot.’
Elijah, who listens to classical music while trading, said: ‘There’s a saying, you are who you chill with. I chill with people who have half a million in the bank.
‘Earning £20 to £30,000 a month, in my world that’s not good. It motivates you to do more.’
Elijah pays £5,000 a month on his flat in Kensington, a stone’s throw from
department store Harrods.
His main expense is cars and when he was aged 20, he made sure he, literally, bhad one of London’s flashiest cars by paying £150,000 on a Lambourghini and painting it gold.
He said: ‘When you’re little you’ve got your ideal car, you’ve got your dream
car. Some kids are like “I want to get a Bugatti, I want to get a Ferrari”.
‘Some people are like “yeah yeah.” But I got it.’ That was my dream, I worked
for it, I got it.’
But Elijah made headlines in July when his Lamborghini crashed into his own £60,000 Bentley, with the repair work costing £55,000 on the Lamborghini.
He was left unfazed by it: ‘But that’s life, money comes and goes regardless.’
Elijah also has a collection of expensive watches, ranging from a Rolex to a
Cartier watch costing £21,000 which he has only worn a couple of times.
But he loves his watch collection, he said: ‘You’ve got to treat them like
princesses.’
He’s even given them names, calling one watch Michelle and another Aaliyah
after the singer.
Now that he is comfortably wealthy, Elijah has decided to do something for
someone else – he’s building a house in Africa for his mother.
He said: ‘It’s a surprise I haven’t told her yet.’

. The individuals named include:
INTERNATIONAL PERSON OF THE YEAR 2015 :
Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria , who shocked the whole world by swiftly calling current Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari and conceding his defeat in the March 29 Nigerian presidential election, thereby stopping the predictions of violent bloodshed in Nigeria, and keeping his words that he would not allow the blood of a
Nigerian to be shed to further his political ambitions. President Jonathan must be applauded for creating a solid foundation for the growth of democracy in Africa. The world has started to recognize President Jonathan’s courageous act.
AFRICAN STATESMAN OF THE YEAR 2015:
President Kikwete served his country for 10 years of two terms and participated actively in the selection of the successor President John Magufuli, thereby continuing the tradition of democratic governance in Tanzania, in contrast to some of the neighboring countries where Presidents have abrogated the constitution to further their political ambitions. President has received so many honors for excellence and so many honorary
doctorates by many universities. Africa would continue to need him for the peace negotiations he achieved not only during his presidency, but as well as when he was Tanzania’s foreign minister for 10 years.
CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY COMPANY OF THE YEAR 2015 :
Arik Air, the Nigerian international carrier, is the only African airline in West Africa to have met all standards of licensing by the American aviation authorities to fly to the U.S. Under its General Manager, North America, Mr. Robert Brunner, Arik Air has made a great impact on multiple organizations that serve the Nigerian community in America. No matter how big or
small the organization is, Arik Air and its personal are always there to contribute and encourage the organizations in their mission of serving the community. The organizations use the tickets made available to them by Arik Air in raising funds.
PAN-AFRICAN PERSON OF THE YEAR 2015:
Dr. Ron Daniels, President of the Institute of the Black World and the Pan-African Unity Dialogue. There is a lot of fragmentation within the Pan-African Diaspora movement in the Diaspora, but Dr. Daniels has achieved success by bringing all the groups together, whether you are African, African-American, Caribbean or Latino American, he makes everybody
comfortable and welcome to participate in the organization.
Dr. Daniels also has to be applauded for his 20 years of service
to the people of Haiti.
DIASPORA PERSON OF THE YEAR 2015:
Ambassador Dr. Erieka Bennett, Founder and President of the African Union Diaspora African Forum (AU/DAF). There is no greater sacrifice a Diaspora African could make than to leave the comforts of your comfortable abode in the United States and move to Ghana in furtherance of creating a symbiotic
relationship between Africa and the Diaspora. Ambassador Bennett has established the first Diaspora Diplomatic Mission in Accra, Ghana, and recognized as such by the Ghana government. She has used her offices and continues to use her offices to criss-cross the continent as well as returning to the U.S. to encourage stronger bonds between the Diaspora and the
African continent. She is not only a person of the year but also
a woman of substance.
MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON OF THE YEAR UNDER 40 2015:
Ms. Linda Ikeji, founder of the lindaikeji.blogspot.com . Ms. Ikeji has achieved great fame and influence through her blogging, and is read by millions of people around the world who even get news about what is happening in their country through her blog. Dubbed the African Queen Blogger by the African Sun Times, Ms. Ikeji has become a role model to thousands of aspiring entrepreneurs in Nigeria, male and female and who
she is increasingly mentoring through financial grants and personal advise.
TOURISM AMBASSADOR OF THE YEAR 2015:
Mr. Ikechi Uko, founder of the world famous Akwaaba Expo held every year in Nigeria, which has increasingly attracted international recognition. Go to any country in Africa and mention the name, Ikechi, people would immediately recognize the name and applaud the work he is doing to increase tourism in Africa. Unfortunately, a lot of countries don’t recognize or realize the great foreign exchange earnings of tourism and its
effect on economic growth in countries, which is what Ikechi
Uko is doing his utmost best to correct.

Headies Organisers release statement regarding award night drama
Headies Organisers release statement on the drama that happened on awards night
Read the official statement from Headies Awards organization below...
We are proud of what we have achieved over the years. The Headies
stage has birthed the careers of many artistes who are of A-list status
today. We are also glad that we have reinstated pride and prestige into
the winning of a locally organised music awards and, we have
celebrated artistic ingenuity for 10 straight years; a feat no other group
before us was able to achieve.
Every year, the screening team collate all creative materials released in the
year in review and screen for nomination. This tedious process goes on for at least three months before the screening team comes out with a final list.
The voting categories, such as 'Song Of The Year', 'Artist Of The Year', & 'Next- Rated' are left strictly for fans to vote and choose the winners. We wish to say categorically that we do not tamper with the outcome of the voting
process. The limit of our involvement in this voting process is to advice the
nominees to engage their fans and solicit for their votes. We do not accept
any responsibility for failure on the part of the nominees or their record label,
when they fail to do this.
Unfortunately, most times, Voting, Year In Review and Definitions Of Each
Category, are generally taken for granted by many artists. We can also attest
to, and hereby state categorically that, there is no evidence that any of the
artistes aggrieved and vocal about their displeasure to the turnout of the
award, voted in the 'Next-Rated' category, as our voting process captures
email addresses and phone numbers.
We have ensured that the awards happened regardless of sponsorship, and
that it gets better with each passing year, without giving excuses about
challenges. We may not have gotten everything 100% right, but integrity has
been our watch-word. The 109 Nigerian artistes that have won can attest to
the fact that they did nothing different from those that have not. Awards by
nature, are and will always remain, controversial except every nominee gets
one. We try to ensure that winners are within reach before announcing their
category, as the whole essence of celebrating talents will be defeated without that.
While it is not out of place for an artiste or a party to vent their disapproval,
we strongly condemn all kinds of improper conduct and the use of profanity on live television. In the same manner, we condemn provocative comments. In all, we see no use or reason for a disgruntled artiste or party to destroy valuableproperties put in place to give them extra comfort before they perform or come on stage. This is totally unacceptable and will be addressed.
We congratulate all nominees and winners of The Headies 2015 and wish them a more successful 2016.
Headies Secretariat
Kiss Daniel writes open letter to fans
Kiss Daniel has penned an open letter to thank his fans for their support
and their belief that he should have won “ The Next Rated ” awards at The just concluded Headies.
Here is what he wrote:
"When I opened my social media accounts this morning, it was humbling
for me to see that so many people believe that I deserve recognition for
the work I was able to do last year by the grace of God. But like Thomas
Kempis famously wrote; ‘ Man proposes , but God disposes’ . To see that
fans across different social audiences appreciate the efforts I put into
making my music is one I will never look down upon , no award beats
that, and I hope to be able to repay this confidence in good time My fans
have been the most amazing source of inspiration for me , and I promise
never to let you down . From the days when I was nobody in this
industry, to song after song that you have helped become hits, I say God
bless you for all the support. To be honest, it was quite heartbreaking to
find out that I did not get the particular recognition I so much craved ,
but I am excited that it only means I need to work harder, and that 2016
will be a bigger year for me … .
In 2015 , some of the awards I won with your support include ; ‘ Best New
Act ’ at the Nigerian Entertainment Awards (NEA ) , Next Rated Artiste of
The Year at the Extreme Awards in Benin Republic, AFRIMA Awards Most
Promising Act in Africa . I also found out I was one of the top 5 Google
Top Trending Nigerian Musicians. For an artiste with less than 10 songs
to my name , I think this is enough for me to congratulate myself upon .
This year 2016 is going to be bigger and better ; my debut album drops
this year , and with the work put into it by myself, my team , and that of
the artistes magnanimous enough to feature on it , I am positive that this
will be the year .
I also want to use this opportunity to tell the fans to look out for the
forthcoming single of my label mate and brother ‘ Sugarboy ‘ dropping in
few days from now , as we at G - Worldwide Entertainment will continue to
bring you good music . I thank you all ; my fans for always supporting
me , the media platforms who continue to keep me in the public ’ s mind,
the industry seniors who have made it their job to guide and mentor , and
the members of my team who work behind the scenes to make sure I
keep my head level and continue to make great music . Special shoot - out
to my label boss ‘ Emperor Geezy’ who continues to bring the best out of
me .
I wish you all a happy New Year , and hope you have a good time in
2016 . ANIDUGBE OLUWATOBILOBA DANIEL (KISS DANIEL) ."

"Don Jazzy, Olamide And The ‘Hyundai Skelemba’-Taking It To A Bank" by Charles Novia
Interesting article on the Donjazzy Olamide saga titled :DON JAZZY,
OLAMIDE AND THE ‘HYUNDAI SKELEMBA’-TAKING IT TO A BANK as
written by Charles Novia
The Headies 2015 ( which ironically held on the first day of 2016) was an anti-climax after that.
And perhaps the public tantrums of both Don Jazzy and Olamide were the
highlights of what was before then an above average telecast with glaring
lapses which could have been remedied with more precision.
When the artistes nominated in the ‘Next Rated..’ category were shown in a
mini-documentary somewhere in the show, taking photo-ops in the Hyundai
SUV and pleading for votes from their fans so as to win the prize, I told myself after seeing the earnest expectations on their faces that this category would surely be competitive but would have some bad blood drawn thereafter. The visuals of the four nominated acts seated side-by-side in the hall thereafter, being interviewed by the Hip TV Presenter just before the category was announced also showed an unease amongst them even if they were trying to put up aloof facades.
Korede Bello, Kiss Daniel, L’il Kesh and Reekado Banks. Four nominees in
perhaps the ‘arclosest-to-call’ category in The Headies ever. Looking at the
list, they each had hits in 2015. But in my personal opinion ( which I’m entitled to, innit?) I would have pruned the list at the final stage to just two; Korede Bello and Kiss Daniel.
‘Godwin’ was probably the biggest song of 2015, transcending both the secular and gospel charts and finding resonance all across Africa. How could such a song not get the artiste a winner in that category? On the other hand, ‘Woju’ by Kiss Daniel was another monster hit in 2015 which certainly would have won him that prize without raising eyebrows.
With due respect to Reekado Banks, I don’t think his ‘ Katapot’ track was that
much of a phenomenal hit in 2015 but it was a good track. And L’il Kesh too,
who was touted by Olamide as having back to back hits in 2015 ( by his
reckoning) stood a chance as well but I would say a misfit of personal
branding by the YBNL team for Kesh might have added to his loss in that
category. Club and dance hits are different from acclaimed general hits when
it comes to the brass tacks and ‘Gbese Re’ was huge on the club and dance
circuits but can’t be termed a huge hit compared to Korede’s and Kiss’
Thus, when Reekado won, I was one of the surprised folks watching on
television. Obviously this didn’t go down well with Olamide, on whose label
Kesh is signed on to and he went on a profane and perhaps alcohol-induced
rant onstage a few minutes later, calling out the organisers and storming off
the stage thereafter.
Don Jazzy, the acclaimed Producer, who is the Head Huncho at Mavin
Records which has Reekado as one of its acts, picked up the gauntlet a few
minutes after while receiving his Lifetime Achievement Award and called out
Olamide. He asked Olamide to come take the car won by Reekado and
stormed out of the awards with his crew.
Olamide later went on twitter to rant more expletives on Don Jazzy.
Both artistes were wrong on many fronts. For Olamide, his open inebriation on stage calls for much questioning of his public conduct when he’s not in
performance mode. As he boasts in his songs, he might have packed halls and swayed trends in the past year but trying a Kanye West onstage at The
Headies was ill-advised. One should ask this question ( which I will also throw at Don Jazzy later as well) that if L’il Kesh had back to back hits as Olamide claimed, why didn’t YBNL deem it fit to buy him a car ( if he hasn’t any) all these months?
And Don Jazzy too should have stuffed it when he said that he had told Korede and Reekado not to bother themselves about the car if they didn’t win
because he would buy them a car. Really? Did he mean to tell us that with all
the shows and endorsements both acts had last year under his management, there wasn’t any ‘change’ left to buy his acts cars?
If that’s the case, something is wrong somewhere.
Don Jazzy screwed up though by calling out Olamide in his speech especially as Olamide never mentioned his name. But to a discerning mind, it seems those two had festering issues before last night and that incident was the last straw.
Mutual discontent and petty misgivings are common in the entertainment
industry. I am never fooled by put-on smiles and show of camaderie most
times by artistes as they are human like everyone else. What sets off
animousities are usually a struggle for a space on top; a definition of
ambitious egos or just plain loathing for petty reasons.
The struggle and not the hustle is what is real. Territorial dominance and
egotistical relevance.
The major beneficiary from all this, in spite of the furore over the winner, is
Hyundai. The brand now has more exposure than it bargained for and everyone would remember the brand for months to come. No publicity is bad at all in this regard for them.
To think that Don Jazzy and Olamide did a collabo a couple of years back and an anaemic one too, in my opinion. A song which didn’t make sense and was soon forgotten as soon as it came out.
With the storm over this award and the degenerative posibilities it portends,
one can only suggest to Hyundai to come out with a new model inspired by
this. And calling that model ‘Hyundai Skelemba’ won’t be a bad idea.
The sales might just be something the company can ‘bank’ on.
