Teenage in Court for manslaughter



An 18-year-old student, Saka Hammed, on Friday appeared in an Ebute Metta Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, for allegedly pushing and killing a classmate after an argument.
Hammed, who resides at No. 19, Oshogbo Street, Amukoko, Ijora Badia,
Lagos, was arraigned on a one-count charge of manslaughter.
The Prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Ighodalo, told the court that the accused
committed the offences on Nov.4 at about 8 a.m. at Gaskiya College Gate,
Amukoko, Lagos.
Ighodalo, said the accused and his friends on the Nov. 4 had patiently waited
for the deceased after school hours to confront him for punishing him for
coming late to school.
He said that when the deceased tried to defend himself, the accused,
viciously pushed him into gutter where an iron rod pierced his chest.
He explained that before the deceased was rushed to the hospital he died.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 227 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.Hammed pleaded not guilty.
The Magistrate, Mrs Folarin Williams, granted bail to the accused in the sum
of N250,000 with two sureties in like sum.
She adjourned the case till Jan. 18, for trial.
